Great Gals follow their joy!
Julia Carolyn McWilliams was born in Pasadena, California, in 1912. During World War II, she worked in various administrative capacities for the Office of Strategic Services, where she met her husband, Paul Child. Paul, who had lived abroad and developed a taste for exotic and gourmet foods, introduced Julia to the world of culinary delights. After the war, Paul was stationed in Paris, and Julia, now a housewife, craved a direction of her own. She decided to follow her delight of French food and study at Le Cordon Bleu. âI was thirty-two when I started cooking,â she said. âUp until then, I just ate.â Julia Child would go on to introduce the pleasures and techniques of French cuisine to the American public, and change the culinary world forever.
